The Old Haberdashery Cafe in Market Square, St Just, offers more than your average coffee stop. It operates as both a casual cafe and an event venue, blending a laid-back daytime atmosphere with evenings that lean into shared meals and community gatherings.

By day, visitors find a welcoming spot to enjoy well-made coffee alongside a selection of baked goods and light meals. The vibe inside gently recalls earlier decades, with vintage touches that make lingering feel like stepping into a part of St Just’s local character. The space tends to have a calm buzz—not too crowded—making it a quiet refuge for locals craving a relaxed caffeine fix or a casual catch-up.

Come evening, the cafe transforms into a social dining spot, known especially for its Indian-inspired offerings such as the Thali Supper and pakora, which have drawn praise for their authentic, comforting flavors. Visitors appreciate being able to bring their own wine, which adds an easygoing, homey feel to dinner nights here. The menu also features a variety of options from scones and cinnamon rolls to more substantial bites like focaccia, avocado toast, and inventive fusion elements like kimchi and chutney. This range suits those looking for something a little different from the usual cafe fare without veering into formal restaurant territory.

Locals and visitors alike note the genuinely friendly service, which contributes to the cafe’s approachable atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where regulars settle into their preferred seat, and newcomers feel welcome to do the same. While it’s busiest in the evenings around the communal meals and during weekend visits, those seeking a quiet spot during the week might find it a little limited, as weekday hours can be sparse.

Ideal for those who enjoy unpretentious food with a twist and a setting rich in local personality, The Old Haberdashery Cafe suits small groups, families, and solo visitors alike. Whether you’re stopping by for a comforting coffee break, a working afternoon with a natural vibe, or gathering with friends for a shared supper, the cafe reflects St Just’s blend of history, community, and laid-back charm.

Some of the best Indian food my family and I have ever had, including in India! Fantastic addition to St Just- friendly service, amazing value food and byo booze, and a well done space to enjoy dinner. We really couldn’t get over how delicious everything was.

What a delightful café/tea room, so pleased we called in as we visited St Just. Friendly helpful staff and such lovely food served in a charming atmosphere. Dog friendly as well which is always important for us. The sausage bacon and cheese puff pastry is highly recommended. Very pleased to have found this place, do call in and see for yourself.

Lovely owner and staff. Full English and vegetarian (there's also a Vegan option) were perfectly cooked and delicious. The cappuccino (from a proper cappuccino machine) was perfectly smooth and the correct temperature for me. One of the two perfect coffees I've had in Cornwall over the years. The cafe has a good view to the market square for people watching. We'll go back tomorrow! Recommended.
